Reservoir Dogs

Monday 11th June, Kandy

The group is bonding a little now. In my reservoir dogs style photo from left to right. Chris, who I like less every day. Unamed as yet And Dave her husband. Formally not keen on but now like. The other unamed couple. Set back Andrew and mum. Karen and Shane. Set right back Welsh Dave. I am endeavouring to fill in the missing names.

The 7am wake up call was a relief as we got a lie in. This was the scene at breakfast. The photo is from the dining room.

A panoramic view

First stop was the botanical gardens. Dave dropped us off and we crossed the main road (😱) I have found that Ravi knows everything about everything! He knows all about trees. Here he is with Ian and some giant bamboo.

As we walked along we spotted the fruit bats hanging around in the trees. Every now and again one would take flight for a bit.

It was very pleasant in there till a young girl advised us to avoid a certain path because of the big snake. We never saw it thank god.

We then travelled to pinawarra and the elephant orphanage where those that have lost their mother or are abandoned are taken in. Ravi took us to where they were having a bath in the river

There were loads of them and we got so close. Shane even snuck one a banana he had bought off a dodgy banana seller. It was lunchtime then and Ravi led us to a riverside hotel where we ate while watching elephants bath. Fantastic!

After lunch currie we crossed the main road (😱) to see where they live. Ian bought some fruit and fed a big fella. His tongue was weird.

We watched the babies get bottle fed.

We crossed back over (😱) to visit the poo paper shop when the newly bathed lot came marching back up the main road between the rows of shops. It was a bit surreal.

Dave picked us back up shortly after And took us to a gem factory where they told us how Sri Lankan gem mines are still a bit old fashioned. They get plenty gems out though, the most precious being sapphires. Ravi knows all about gems

A mock up of a gem mine

We were then led upstairs to a very swanky jewellery showroom in the hopes we would buy something. Both the unamed ladies did!

Back at the hotel we had a swim and watched the sunset. It had been a long day.

Next up, a long drive and a tea plantation

Man of the day
