BFF’s
Thursday 14th June, Thissamaharama to Colombo
We woke on our last full day in Sri Lanka with a little sadness in the knowledge that our best friends forever group (except Chris) would soon be fractured. Ravi had set the alarm for 6.30 so we breakfasted and left. It would really be a Dave coaches day, with a walking tour of the Dutch fort of Galle. Ravi immediately stopped the bus to show us another humongous colony of fruit bats in the trees. As it pulled up, the vibrations startled some and they took to the air. It is a marvellous sight.
As per usual the clan soon nodded off and Ravi had to wake us at our tea and toilet spot, our first chance to dip our feet in the Indian Ocean. Welsh Dave was straight on there.
As we carried on toward Galle, Ravi entertained us with the process for finding a wife/husband in Sri Lanka. He is very knowledgable. It involves lots of horoscope reading and an advert in the paper. He also explained about the Tsunami that devastated the area in 2004.
If anyone watches Good Karma Hospital you will be excited to learn that we had lunch in a lovely hotel opposite. It was also where the cast eat during shoots. They are just planning a new series and shooting starts in August. I was very clear about the fish today. It was a huge hunk of tuna and delicious.
Good karma
Good dinner
It was meltingly hot as we arrived in Galle, and the walking tour was more of a crawl. Ravi told us all about it. In reality it was nothing spectacular, but we managed some good selfies.
We got back on the bus just outside the official Galle International Cricket Stadium. Ravi says if you sit on the fort walls you can see the match.
Soon the crew were all snoozing again, woken only when Ravi insisted we stop at a Sri Lankan motorway services. He has looked after our toiletry needs with vigour. About an hour later we were rolling up for our final hotel of the tour. The old colonial Mount Lavinia Just south of Colombo. The public rooms were spectacular, but our bedroom was tired and smelled fusty. It did have a fabulous sea view though.
We were given a table outside for dinner with a fabulous view of the Colombo skyline.
So, Welsh Dave with his back to us. Chris left just out of picture, Ann, mum, Andrew, earring pat, Dave Suffolk, Ravi head of table, Dave Sussex, bracelet Sharon, Ian, Shane, Karen
E-mail addresses were exchanged and promises of eternal friendships given. Tomorrow we would split and go our separate ways.
Next up, beach stay
Man of the day
Ravi for his superior knowledge
